The history of the Thread Bears® company, and information on where to find us can be found here!
Thread Bears® began as a mother-daughter team in the late 1980's.  Artists Sue Aucoin and Emma Petersen started small--selling items at arts & crafts shows in Arizona, California, and Nevada--referring to their business as "Devine Designs" at the time.

They made their business official in 1990, and began advertising in Folkart Treasures Magazine (including the Fifth Anniversary Edition) featuring their Raggedys, Apple Annie Dolls, and country-style bears and animals.

In 1990, the mother-daughter team began creating patterns for their Raggedys, Little Curd (crocheted cow), Alphabear©, and Penny Patches.  These patterns are no longer available for purchase.

In earlier 2000, they introduced these tiny creations to bear artists collectors and online marketplaces, including submissions to Teddy Bear and Friends Magazine.

Since 2002, they have offered exclusive products to the Toy Shoppe--which is known for offering the finest artist bears and dolls.

The artist duo stay close to their original miniature crocheted bears and animals but have ventured out, experimenting with techniques to set their products apart--including hand-dyeing, fulling (commonly referred to as felting), and adding details to give a more-dignified-with-age appearance.  In addition to their crocheted miniatures, Thread Bears® offers knitted items, patterns, home decor items, wearables, and handmade art prints.  Other artists who have joined the company are Sue's daughters: Bonnie Aucoin, Rachel Klein, Sarah Wilson, and Rhonda Potteet --in hopes of continuing the business for generations more.

The founders had acquired the Thread Bears trademark, named their business after it, and have since established a family of trademarks.  The Thread Bears® company has expanded their productlines to include:

"Thready Bears, Our Little Knotheads"® is the productline featuring large-thread-headed, amigurumi-style creatures.

"Thread Teds by Thread Bears"® is a productline which features details like: miniatures, a head and muzzle in one, and bent arms and paws.  These products are inspired by our "Thread Ted" pattern, which is also available on this site.

"Primiteds" is the newest venture for Thread Bears® design.  These products feature antique-, vintage-, and primitive-style products.

Each item is proudly created and packaged in the United States.  The Thread Bears® company upholds professional principles and flourishes in God's glory.
